A few weeks ago I gave you a little insight into a wonderful little Texas winery, En Gedi Vineyards. It’s located in Calvert, around a half-hour drive from BCS. I thought you might like to know a little bit more about that great little town. So, today we’re going to explore some of the hottest spots in Historic Downtown Calvert, Texas.
While Calvert may only have one traffic light, there are a lot of reasons to stop and take in all this charming town has to offer. I’m not exaggerating when I say you can spend the better part of the day taking it all in. If that sounds unlikely, let me walk you through a great way to get the most out of your Calvert visit.
There is almost always parking available on or just off Main Street. A good place to get your day going is to pop into the Farmers to Market Calvert Coffee Company. Located on the south end of Main Street, it has that historic, old-town charm blended with an amazing aroma of fresh coffee. It’s a great place to pick up some beans or just fuel up for the rest of your journey. There’s not space to mention them all, but you can spend a good bit of time browsing in the local shops, such as Selah Antiques, Company B, The Calvert Collective and the ZZ Old General Store. All of that is on the east side of the street!
As your appetite starts to build, make your way across the road to the Wonkey Donkey. Strange name, but really good food. Try one of their salads, the Fonduta or a specialty pizza – maybe the Jalapeno Popper or the Supreme (it has about a dozen different toppings!) You can even shoot a game of pool while you take it all in. They’re going to offer you dessert, but maybe take a pass on that (this time) and walk a block north to Pappy’s Bakery. They have a great dessert counter and even a nice sandwich menu, as well.
There are some really nice boutiques and galleries, such as Lost Creek Gallery just a short walk south on Main. And it definitely worth the experience to step into the Ol’ West Saloon for something refreshing. But don’t get too comfortable, because you’re gonna want to start making your way over to En Gedi Vineyards & Winery to get a good table before the sun starts to go down. Go see my other blog post about En Gedi. It is a real treat and a great way to wind down the day. I haven’t even mentioned all of the gorgeous historic homes and churches located east of Downtown. It is definitely worth a drive (before you spend too much time at En Gedi, of course).
As I always say, whether you’re a Brazos Valley resident, a frequent visitor or just checking out the area, I really think you’ll enjoy spending part of your day in Calvert. And if you are looking to find a great property in our area, you know I’d love to help. Shoot me a text or give me a call today!
