The Farm Patch Market

There are just some places that seem like such a part of the fabric of a community that it’s hard to imagine what it would be like without them. You know the types of places I’m talking about. Every town has them and the town is just better because they’re a part of it. This week I want to tell you about one of those places right here in Bryan: The Farm Patch Market.

Just up the street from the Texas A&M campus is a wonderful place where you can take a little step back in time. Many of us remember going to farmers markets and produce stands “back in the day” before all the big box stores created their super-sized produce sections. Don’t get me wrong – I love that you can find good produce at your Kroger and H-E-B (and, yes, even Wal-Mart), but there’s nothing like having a market that specializes in providing the freshest, highest quality fruits, vegetables, nuts and so much more.

Since 1974 The Farm Patch has been doing just that. Their fruits and vegetables are absolutely gorgeous! The variety is amazing and it is hard to walk through without seeing something that calls your name. (The apples, corn and tomatoes are a real favorite.) The market doesn’t just have fruits & vegetables either. Locally sourced honey, nuts, sauces and other delicacies line the aisles. There’s even an “import room” with specialty items from around the world. It’s like a market within a market!

And that’s not even close to all they have to offer. In addition to the produce market, there’s a garden center with trees, flowers, herbs & garden plants. They also have supplies & tools for your yard & garden. The selection of plants is great and it’s fun to walk through even if you’re not necessarily looking for anything specific, However, just like the produce market, it can be hard to walk out empty handed!

As I mentioned, it’s just several blocks from campus. You turn off University Drive onto South College Avenue and travel just a short distance. It’ll be on your right and there’s parking around back. Both the produce market and garden center are open Monday – Saturday 9am to 7pm. The garden center is open 10am to 4pm on Sundays. And be sure to watch for all the seasonal crops to come in, including peaches, pecans and pumpkins.

It doesn’t matter if you’re just visiting or a BCS native, a trip to The Farm Patch really needs to be on your bucket list. But don’t blame me if you go home with a car load of fruits & vegetables or a weekend gardening project. Sometimes you just can’t help it! As always, if I can help with anything real estate, text or give me a call today.
