By now you can probably tell we like talking about great locally-owned places to eat in BCS. And there’s no larger collection of local flavor than in Historic Downtown Bryan. Today let’s talk about one of the newer kids on the block: Billy’s Grille & Bar.
Billy’s had its debut on the downtown strip in the fall of 2022, but the owners are no strangers to BCS. The Schulman family has been a local fixture for decades and may be best known for their movie theaters enjoyed by so many of us in years past. You may have seen our feature on The Queen Theater and discovered the Schulman family connection there, as well.
Just a few doors down from The Queen – at the corner of Main Street and W 26th – is the family’s latest endeavor. Billy’s serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week. The fare is just what you’d expect from a bar & grille – lots of flavor and an abundance of comfort food. First-hand experience leads us to highly recommend the chicken fried steak and the fish & chips. Neither will disappoint and the portions are excellent. Some other great options include carbonara pasta, grilled peppercorn sirloin, chicken & waffles and – of course – great burgers. A variety of wraps and salads are included to round out the offerings. The breakfast menu is packed with traditional favorites like biscuits & gravy, eggs & omelets, hotcakes & bacon and much more.
Billy’s definitely has that “downtown” vibe and is located close to many downtown landmarks like The Palace Theater, La Salle Hotel, Carnegie Library and more. There are two large TV’s over the bar to watch all the games of the day and the bar itself offers a wide range of liquor and beer options, including local draft selections and even a beer-flight menu. And did I mention the ice cream and milkshakes? Don’t miss those!
