Villa West Park

In my previous post about the Edgewater subdivision I mentioned how close it is to several parks. And while it definitely is getting hotter as the summer goes on, I want to tell you about a park that makes it possible to enjoy an outing without necessarily having to layer on sunscreen. Today let’s take a closer look at Villa West Park in Bryan.

I’m focusing on this park because it just has so much to offer. You really can’t see it from the road, but nestled back in a nicely wooded area is an amazing space that has something that can appeal to everyone in the family. And what makes this park really stand out is that much of the fun spaces are actually covered!

First of all, the park has lots of trees, so there’s a ton of shade. But there are also two covered playground areas where the kids can play under the shade of large canopies. Right next to both these playgrounds is a covered pavilion with picnic tables, BBQ pits and restrooms where adults and kids alike can hang out and still keep an eye on what’s going on. Right next to the shaded pavilion are a horseshoe pit and three great sports facilities. First, there’s a lighted sand volleyball pit. You don’t see that in many parks. Opposite the volleyball area are two really nice fenced tennis courts that are surrounded on three sides by trees. And right next to the tennis courts is a covered, lighted basketball facility with multiple courts. There are so many recreation and sports options at this park!

All of the amenities I’ve mentioned are impressive, but that’s just the beginning. There are also several walking/jogging trails that meander through the woods and you’re likely to see half a dozen or more different bird species as you wind your way along. Additional picnic tables are scattered throughout the park, as well. And one of the other great features of this park is the covered outdoor classroom with multi-level seating. There are so many things you could do with that space, including nature presentations, musical performances or outdoor lectures. Are you packing your picnic basket yet?

So, how do you get there? Villa West Park is located off Villa Maria Road between Harvey Mitchell Rd and Highway 47. The entrance is actually the same entrance used for Mary Branch Elementary, located between the school and fire station. You’re going to pass Chick-fil-a, Subway, Pizza Hut and Wings-n-More (plus Wal-Mart) along the way, so you’ve got lots of picnic & party options. This is such a wonderful park and a fantastic enhancement to our community. I really hope you’ll go check it out!

As always, if you’re looking to buy or sell a home in the area, I’d love to help! Give me a call or shoot me a text today!
